Liverpool take serious step towards completing £30m January signing

Liverpool still have a few holes to fill in their squad under Andoni Iraola.

Despite making four new signings in the summer transfer window, the consensus was that the Reds were short in a couple of areas on the pitch.

So far, Florian Wirtz has started most games as a No.10 and has flattered to deceive. After Harvey Elliott’s loan move to Valencia, Liverpool don’t have another attacking midfielder in their squad, which could emerge as a bit of a worry.

And now, it appears as if they are trying to solve this problem by getting their hands on one of the most exciting talents in world football: Gilberto Mora.

Liverpool want Gilberto Mora in January

Mora showed his class at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is attracting interest from several clubs across the world.

TEAMtalk report that Liverpool have already taken serious steps towards signing the Mexican in January, with Club Tijuana demanding around £30m to complete the deal.

An excerpt from the article reads: “TEAMtalk can reveal that Liverpool have followed their earlier enquiries, which we revealed two weeks ago, with renewed approaches to his representatives and the club, positioning themselves as strong contenders for his signature.

“Sources close to the discussions describe the interest as serious rather than exploratory.

“Tijuana want the Reds to come with an offer in the region of £30million, a figure that would set a Liga MX record.

“However, Mora’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has declined to comment on any specific amounts.”

Liverpool definitely want the player, as reports from England and Mexico have confirmed their interest. The sensible thing would be to get it done in January to avoid a potential hijack.
