Liverpool transfer news as crucial decision made on £70m signing

Liverpool’s backline has been reduced to its bare bones recently.

Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni are injured, while Andoni Iraola confirmed that Jeremy Jacquet will be eased into the fray as he continues to get to grips with Premier League football.

The Reds could do well with another versatile defensive option who can play right back and in central defence.

Liverpool have the option to re-sign Jarell Quansah for £70m this summer, with the price dropping to £55m next year.

And now, a decision has been made on whether the England international will return to Anfield this summer.

Liverpool will not re-sign Jarell Quansah this summer

Quansah has impressed for Bayer Leverkusen since joining the club last summer and was even called up to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has confirmed that the Reds do not plan to bring him back to the club this summer, with the situation set to be re-evaluated in 2027.

“The Reds have the option to re-sign Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen for £70m – double what they sold the England international for last summer.

“However, other areas of the squad are currently seen as a priority, with hopes high that Jacquet and Leoni can become Premier League stars.”

Yesterday, Sky Sports reported that Liverpool will not reinforce their rearguard this summer, so Crook’s update on Quansah falls well in line with that.

As fans of the club, all we can say is that the whole situation screams of negligence. And if the forthcoming season goes wrong, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards will have a lot of questions to answer.
