Why £80m Yan Diomande ‘dreams’ of Liverpool despite Man Utd interest

Liverpool look set to rival fellow Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea for one of the most exciting prospects in world football.

Fenway Sports Group splashed out over £400 million in transfer fees last summer before pre-agreeing to sign Rennes young defender Jeremy Jacquet for in excess of £60 million.

Now, the Merseysiders look like they’re turning their attention to the attacking positions, possibly due to the unexpected downturn in Mohamed Salah’s form this term. The Egyptian King could move on in the summer after a fallout with Arne Slot in December.

Liverpool eyeing up next wing wizard

Bundesliga hotshot Yan Diomande has caught the attention of the top clubs in Europe this season. The teenager is one of the most highly sought-after prospects in the world.

Alex Crook, talkSPORT’s senior correspondent, has now reported that Liverpool are keen to go head-to-head with their English rivals for his signature. United and Chelsea are the other teams keeping tabs on the youngster.

In 21 league appearances, the two-footed wonderkid has found the back of the net eight times, while also setting up three goals for his teammates.

His explosive performances in the German top-flight have led to links with some of the biggest clubs on the planet. Make no mistake, Diomande is hot property.

The 19-year-old is expected to cost more than £80 million, with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich also in the mix for his signature.

Diomande called Liverpool his father’s ‘dream’ club

Reds supporters were excited to hear Diomande declare that he is ‘a big fan of Liverpool’ and he dreams of playing at Anfield in November.

However, the Ivory Coast international has now moved to clarify those comments, claiming the Premier League side is actually his dad’s ‘dream club’

“People made it out to be my dream club, but first and foremost, it’s my dad’s favourite club,” Diomande told Bild this week.

He continued: “It was always his great wish to see me play there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield. He always raved about Steven Gerrard. I was too young to see him play. We didn’t even have a TV at home for a long time.”

“I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig,” the talented wide player concluded.

It does line up with the original comments he made in the video that surfaced online last year, where he stated: “I’m a big fan of Liverpool because my father’s dream is to see me play at Anfield, so that’s my dream.

“You know, to fulfil my father’s dream is a dream for me too.”

Jurgen Klopp’s advice for teenage sensation

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could actually end up playing a role in any future transfer for Diomande.

The German is Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer and oversees all clubs under the company’s control, which includes RB Leipzig.

Diomande was asked if he had spoken to Klopp about Liverpool, to which he responded: “No, not that, but we talk every now and then.

“He tells me to stay humble and keep working hard. It was always my dream to play on one of his teams. That’s not quite possible now, but being so close to him now, talking to him, shaking his hand, it’s incredible. He’s a legend.”

Those comments suggest he would’ve jumped at the chance to play at Anfield if Klopp was still in the dugout. Even if he hasn’t already, the 58-year-old could still have a word in Diomand’s ear about Liverpool.
