Liverpool are “very close to agreeing personal terms” with Timo Werner, according to journalist Ian McGarry.
The RB Leipzig star will leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season, without numerous clubs interested in snapping him up.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich look the two strongest candidates to acquire his services, with the German one of the most highly-rated young forwards in Europe.
Talk of a move to Anfield had cooled a little until recently, but rumours have returned about him joining the Jurgen Klopp revolution at Anfield.
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, McGarry went as far as to say that Liverpool are close to agreeing a deal for Werner:
My information is Liverpool are very close to agreeing personal terms with Werner.
Obviously they have been lacking a natural No 9 out-and-out striker for some time.
Divock Origi hasn’t made any impression, Daniel Sturridge has obviously had his injury problems and has failed to make an impression when he’s come on this season.
There is no doubting that Liverpool need attacking reinforcements this summer, in order to ease the workload of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Daniel Sturridge looks set to leave, as could Divock Origi, and Werner would be the perfect fit, in terms of style.
