  • Liverpool’s home clash against Chelsea moved
  • TNT Sports to broadcast the game in May
  • Timing could change depending on Champions League progression

Liverpool’s penultimate Premier League game of the 2025/26 season has been moved to a 12:30 pm (BST) kick-off. The match is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at Anfield.

The Premier League have already announced that the kick-off time could change based on the Reds’ progression in the UEFA Champions League. The fixture will be moved to 8pm (BST) on the same day if Arne Slot’s side reaches the semifinals of the European competition.

The club statement on the official website confirmed the change, and it read:

“A new kick-off time has been announced for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Chelsea next month. The Anfield meeting will now be played at 12.30pm BST on Saturday May 9. TNT Sports will broadcast it live in the UK. The game is subject to movement due to potential Champions League fixture scheduling.”

The two sides are separated by one point in the Premier League table, and are fighting for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season. The Reds currently sit fifth with 49 points, while the Blues are a place behind.

Why will Liverpool vs Chelsea’s kick-off time change again?

Liverpool face Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals this month. The first leg takes place in Paris next week, while the French champions visit Anfield a week later for the second leg.

Should Slot’s side beat the Ligue 1 side and progress to the semifinal, where they face Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, the second leg will be on Wednesday, May 6. The Premier League do not want a quick turnaround for the Reds, and are set to give them a few more hours before taking the pitch against Chelsea.

The Blues are already out of the Champions League this season, after PSG thashed them 8-2 on aggregate in the Round of 16 in March. Liam Rosenior’s side only have the Premier League and FA Cup to focus on for the rest of the season.

What happened when Liverpool faced Chelsea earlier this season?

Liverpool’s search for a statement win in the capital ended in agony as a 95th-minute strike condemned Arne Slot’s side to a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Despite a spirited second-half fightback, the Reds were left to rue missed opportunities as Chelsea’s wonderkid Estêvão Willian snatched all three points in the dying embers of the match.

Gakpo strikes but Reds stutter

After trailing to an early Moisés Caicedo opener, Liverpool finally found their breakthrough just after the hour mark. Alexander Isak, whose record-breaking move to Anfield has transformed the frontline, showed exactly why he was worth the investment.

The Swede’s brilliant first touch and vision set the ball up perfectly for Cody Gakpo, and the Dutchman made no mistake, firing home to level the scores in front of a jubilant away end.

However, the momentum failed to yield a winner. Liverpool managed just one clear-cut opening following the equalizer, with the Reds’ clinical edge deserting them when it mattered most.

Stoppage time sting

As the clock ticked into the fifth minute of added time, Chelsea made the most of a defensive lapse. Marc Cucurella a constant thorn in the side all afternoon delivered a dangerous, low cross across the face of the goal.

Brazilian sensation Estêvão Willian was perfectly placed at the far post to tap home, leaving the Reds with no time to respond.

Should Liverpool navigate their high-stakes European quarter-final and reach the Champions League semi-finals, the shift to an 8:00 PM BST kickoff will offer Arne Slot’s squad vital recovery time but it will also transform the Chelsea clash into a high-octane Saturday night showdown.

With the Reds currently locked in a fierce battle for the top four, and Chelsea sitting just a point behind on 48, this fixture is fast becoming the definitive “six-pointer” of the 2025/26 run-in. For now, supporters are advised to keep their travel plans flexible as the road to both Munich and the Premier League finish line becomes quite clear.
