Liverpool warned of difficult nature of deal for Erling Haaland

Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Erling Haaland has quickly established himself as one of the hottest properties in world football and Liverpool have been touted as potential suitors when the striker decides to move on.

In truth, any elite football club worth their salt would jump at the chance to sign Haaland. In his short career to date, the Norwegian has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence – since his £18m move from Austrian side RB Salzburg in January 2020, the 20-year-old has seen his market value rocket to £90m.

Norwegian journalist Lars Sivertsen has told talkSPORT’s Trans Europe Express just how difficult it may be to prize the star out of Dortmund in January.

He said: ”Just having the striker for one more year is worth a lot of money to Dortmund. You could say to them, ‘here’s a lot more money than you can sell him for next summer’, but Dortmund would say ‘we don’t care’ because if they have him for another year they have a much better chance of winning the league.”

In response, European football expert Andy Brassell predicted a potential summer departure for the 20-year-old and claimed the people around him are in no rush as they know ‘top clubs’ will always be keen.

With both Manchester United and Manchester City reportedly interested in landing Haaland, Liverpool would pull off one of the greatest transfers of the modern era if they could land the Norway star.

Whilst Manchester City have the advantage of his father Alf-Inge having played for them in the past, the reigning Premier League champions have former Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp at the helm, and who knows what sway that could ultimately hold.

Signing Haaland would all but guarantee an abundance of goals for the foreseeable future and Liverpool should be doing all they can to be at the front of that particular queue.
