Liverpool’s opening bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected

Liverpool’s opening bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected

According to James Olley of the Evening Standard, Liverpool have had a £30m bid rejected for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It had been reported that Antonio Conte’s Chelsea were leading the race for the England international as the London side had a bid accepted by their rivals, but the player’s preference is to make the move to Merseyside.

However, in order to get this deal over the line, the Reds will need to up their offer as their initial bid was lower than the £40m that Chelsea had submitted and was accepted.

Chelsea were looking to offer Oxlade-Chamberlain a wing back position in the team, whereas the former Southampton man is more keen on playing in a central position which he thinks he would be able to do at Liverpool

This transfer is likely to go down to the wire, with the general consensus being that Liverpool will need to choose between the Arsenal man and Thomas Lemar.
