Lonergan WON’T stay at Liverpool this season

Liverpool won’t be signing Andy Lonergan this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo‘s Ian Doyle on Twitter.

The veteran goalkeeper is currently a free agent, but has been at Anfield this summer in order to help with a lack of availability between the sticks.

Despite potentially being offered a permanent deal at the club, that will now reportedly not happen.

Simon Mignolet’s exit to Club Brugge has not changed the situation, with Liverpool now expected to bring in a new backup to Alisson, rather than give Lonergan that honour.

Doyle reports that Liverpool could even announce Mignolet’s replacement as soon as Monday, with West Ham stopper Adrian the current favourite to come in.

Southampton’s Alex McCarthy and former Reds favourite Pepe Reina are two more who have been linked with moves to Anfield, with the latter the most romantic choice among supporters.

Lonergan has proved to be a worthwhile addition during his time at the club, performing impressively in a pre-season clash with Sevilla earlier this summer.
