Liverpool have already lost a handful of key players recently as the likes of Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate left at the end of the 2025-26 season.
And now, according to reports in Spain, Alexis Mac Allister could also be on his way out of Anfield this summer as he wants to move to Real Madrid.
The experienced midfielder played a starring role for Argentina as they reached the 2026 FIFA World Cup final despite losing to Spain.
Mac Allister will now take a short holiday before returning to Liverpool for pre-season. However, it appears as if his future may lie in the Spanish capital if he gets his wish.
Mac Allister feels Liverpool adventure is over
The 28-year-old has been at Liverpool for three seasons now and was fantastic under Arne Slot when the Reds won the Premier League title last year.
However, the 2025-26 campaign proved to be a difficult one for him. He looked a tad slower and there were suggestions that his legs were gone as he struggled for form and consistency.
Mac Allister, however, made a statement at the World Cup with Argentina and proved once and for all that last season was just a blip.
And now, Defensa Central report that he feels his Liverpool adventure is over and wants to join Real Madrid, with Jose Mourinho’s side on the lookout for a midfielder.
Journalist Latigo Serrano has some quotes from the matter that add some intriguing value to the aforementioned transfer claims.
“The latest player to be offered is Alexis Mac Allister. He has a contract with Liverpool until June 2028 and the player believes his time in England is over.”
“Liverpool would accept a transfer fee of €100m. It wasn’t offered by their agent, but by the same one who offered Enzo in February.
“He’s an intermediary who works for Real Madrid on Premier League matters.”
“He’s a player very much in Mourinho’s mold. He’s physical, gets forward into the opposition’s box, and the manager knows him perfectly. Furthermore, he would be a player who could make an immediate impact.”
The report from Defensa Central makes it look as if Mac Allister has asked to leave, but it is important to take these claims with a pinch of salt.
When Real Madrid want a player, they use the Spanish media to carve out narratives that suit them, which has been the case several times over the years.
Selling Mac Allister shouldn’t be a thought Liverpool entertain this summer, unless a ridiculous fee is on offer and the player demands to leave.
