‘Embarrassment’ – Steven Gerrard enraged by what happened during Liverpool vs Arsenal

Liverpool suffered their second Premier League defeat under Andoni Iraola as they were downed 1-0 by Arsenal at Anfield.

Kai Havertz scored the solitary goal of the game, but the biggest talking point was an incident involving Alexander Isak and Jurrien Timber.

The Arsenal defender tugged Isak’s shirt and pulled him down, which prevented him from getting his head to a fantastic Bradley Barcola cross.

And Steven Gerrard feels it was an embarrassing moment for Stuart Atwell, who was the VAR on the night.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard fumes at VAR

“You definitely feel like there was something there, but from where I was sitting, it wasn’t completely clear,” said Gerrard via The Overlap.

“I wasn’t sitting there thinking, ‘That’s definitely a penalty,’ but the reaction of the crowd – you’re going off it wondering if there’s something there.

“The speed of the cross, how it happened and the reaction, you can understand how a referee could possibly miss that or think there isn’t much in that.

“But for someone to sit with all these screens around them only to miss that from the VAR seat is an absolute embarrassment.

To hold someone’s shirt for that long and to have three or four opportunities to see that and slow it down, it’s really poor from Stuart Atwell.”

Gerrard has never been one to mince his words and has once again conveyed his feelings very clearly.

Looking back at the clips, it does look like a stonewall penalty as Isak was clearly impeded, but all we can do at the moment is to brush it under the carpet and move on, as such is the state of officiating in the Premier League.
