- Liverpool might lose two starters in the same window
- Liverpool is on the verge of losing another superstar for free
- Liverpool need to bolster their defence next season
Liverpool are going through a tough period and a number of changes are expected in the summer. In the meantime, Manchester City and Chelsea seem to have already held talks with a Liverpool regular over a move away in the next transfer window.
Liverpool are gearing up for a squad reshuffle, which isn’t surprising given their poor showings recently, including a 4–0 thrashing by Manchester City in the FA Cup at the weekend.
So, irrespective of the results at the end of the season, the Reds will need reinforcements in a number of areas. On the other hand, some players are also slated to leave the club.
Mohamed Salah is one such individual who will depart Liverpool as a free agent after spending about a decade at the club. However, it looks like he isn’t alone and another Reds star might follow in the footsteps of the Egyptian.
The player in question is Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate. His contract with the club is set to expire soon, and speculation about the French international’s future has grown.
Now, reports have emerged suggesting that Chelsea and Manchester City have taken the first step towards a potential transfer of the 26-year-old in the summer.
In fact, TEAMtalk have reported that both Premier League giants have already held preliminary talks with Konate’s camp, who might be pushing for a move away from Liverpool.
Liverpool need to reach a concrete decision regarding Ibrahima Konate as soon as possible
Liverpool had already lost a player without receiving a fee last season when Trent Alexander-Arnold left for free to join Real Madrid. So the Reds should have been extra careful in avoiding any such situation in the future.
Shockingly, the opposite has happened and Konate is also on the verge of a similar move. The French defender has dodged the club’s attempts to renew his agreement for a long time. And as things stand Konate has just three months of his contract left with the Reds.
Clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea have already been heavily linked with the player. So Liverpool should look for a final decision from the player and prepare their transfer strategy accordingly.
Liverpool must sign a proven defender if Ibrahima Konate leaves
Konate is currently a regular in Liverpool’s backline when fit. He has appeared in 41 matches in all competitions this season. So needless to say, he will leave a significant void if he decides to departs.
As a result, Liverpool will have to start shortlisting candidates to replace Konate. With a number of current squad members on the sidelines, one might argue that the Reds will need to make some defensive additions even if Konate stays, which is a fair point as well.
Nevertheless, losing Salah and Konate in the same window might prove to be a huge blow for Liverpool. While Salah’s case is understandable Liverpool must do everything in their power to sort things out with the Frenchman. It remains to be seen whether the club can manage that.
