Man City players criticised for singing offensive Liverpool chant

Manchester City could find themselves in hot water after a video emerged of players and staff singing an offensive Liverpool-related song.

Pep Guardiola’s side sealed Premier League glory on Sunday afternoon, pipping the Reds to the title by a point.

While Liverpool were quick to offer their respect to their rivals, with both Jurgen Klopp and captain Jordan Henderson congratulating them, the respect doesn’t appear to be mutual.

Footage has emerged of City’s players and backroom staff on their flight home singing a song to the same tune as Liverpool’s well-known “Allez Allez Allez” chant.

Their version of the song features the lyrics “battered in the street”, seemingly referring to stricken Liverpool supporter Séan Cox.

Cox was left with life threatening injuries after being attacked by Roma fans before last season’s Champions League semi-final first leg at Anfield.

The video has been met with anger by anyone of a Reds persuasion, adding fuel to the fire in a rivalry that seems to be simmering.

City have denied the accusations, however, saying: “Any suggestion that the lyrics relate to Séan Cox or the Hillsborough tragedy is entirely without foundation.”
