As the proposed European Super League disbands as quickly as it came about, we’ve taken a trip back to remember Liverpool‘s first venture into the last major breakaway league.
Whilst not as controversial and ultimately not as potentially damaging to the game as we know it, the introduction of the newly formed top-flight taking over from the old First Division was a huge sea change.
The inaugural campaign in 1992/93 saw the Reds make the trip to Nottingham Forest in what was the first-ever game in the Premier League to be broadcast live by Sky TV.
A Liverpool side containing the likes of Ian Rush, Michael Thomas and Steve Nichol, managed by Graeme Souness came up short on the day when Teddy Sheringham scored the only goal of the match.
Since then the Anfield club have been involved in every top-flight season, winning the coveted title for the first time last season when Jurgen Klopp led the Reds to glory.
