Norwich preparing to offer Liverpool-linked Godfrey new contract

Liverpool have seemingly taken a liking to Norwich’s Ben Godfrey.

The central defender has enjoyed a terrific season in the heart of the Canaries back four, and is a large part of his side’s position at the top of the Championship.

Making 34 appearances in all competitions, the 21-year-old has had a good taste of what it takes to compete at the highest levels of English football, and Liverpool scouts are reportedly of the belief that he has what it takes to take that next step and join the elite.

Although his club are all but certain to be promoted anyway, Liverpool are reported by Football Insider as eager to pluck the former York City man from the Yellows’ ranks.

Norwich are ready to put up a fight though, with the same Football Insider report claiming that the East Anglians will offer their star man a new contract upon promotion to the top-flight.

With Jurgen Klopp ready to sell Dejan Lovren if a club meets his £30 million valuation, the Reds are assembling a list of new central defenders who could replace the Croat at Melwood.

There will be some stiff competition for Godfrey, however. A separate Football Insider report states that Lyon are ready to launch a £10 million bid for the defensive force, who has also been deployed as a midfielder in years past.
