Liverpool’s youth prospect Sheyi Ojo looks likely to make a move to Wigan Athletic on loan for the remainder of the season, according to the Liverpool Echo. Earlier this week, Liverpool u21 boss Michael Beale stated there had been a lot of interest surrounding Ojo:
“There’s a lot of interest around him in terms of a loan, we’ve got to make sure it’s the right thing for Sheyi and if he goes out that he’s going to play and if he’s not going to play, he’s got to get access – like Conor Randall at Shrewsbury – to come back and play for us.”
Manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Ojo will benefit from playing regular first team football, similar to how Jordan Ibe flourished at Derby County.
Wigan, who currently find themselves in the relegation zone of the Championship, may see Ojo as a direct short-term replacement for Callum McManaman (McManaman recently joined Premier League’s West Brom).
17 year old Ojo is a pacy winger, who has impressed for the youth teams this season. His form earned him a place on the senior team’s substitute’s bench for the matches against Burnley and Leicester City.
However, Ojo may first have to shift his focus on the FA Youth Cup 5th round tie against Birmingham City today.
