Opinion: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has huge selection call to make

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has a rare decision to make over whether or not Mohamed Salah should start a Premier League fixture.

So often one of the first names on the teamsheet, a combination of a slight dip in form and an injury could see the German boss consider the 29-year-old’s selection against Arsenal.

Despite making a swift return to training this week, Klopp also has Roberto Firmino back in contention alongside a plethora of attacking options.

There are firing forwards en masse at the moment within the Reds’ squad and Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota would all argue that they are worthy of a start in the capital.

However, is it really plausible to drop the 28 goals and 10 assist Salah in what is a crucial clash in the race for the title?

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Predicted XI: Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Thiago; Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane.

Predicted Subs: Caoimhin Kelleher, Joe Gomez, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Harvey Elliott, Ibrahima Konate.

Whilst there is certainly a case to leave the Egyptian King out of this clash, with an FA Cup tie and likely rest ahead before the international break, it’s not a viable option.

This is perhaps the strongest side available to Klopp right now, with the notable exception of the ever-impressive Jota being left on the bench.

As impact subs go in this squad, the Portuguese ace has come up with the goods previously and this may well be required once more.
