Jordan Henderson has revealed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be in line for a return to Liverpool before the end of this season.
The former Arsenal midfielder has returned to light training with the Reds after suffering ligament damage against Roma last April.
Oxlader-Chamberlain has been out of action since, but Henderson revealed he believes the midfielder could be back in action to help with Liverpool’s title push before the end of the campaign.
The club captain also revealed that Oxlade Chamberlains return was a massive boost for the entire club, as Liverpool prepare to face Manchester United on Sunday.
Henderson told the club’s website:
He has been out for a while now and I’m sure he’s been thinking about that moment for a long time.
It was great to have him back. He is a great character around the lads and he is obviously a fantastic player, so to have him back within the squad was a big plus for us.
Hopefully over the next few weeks he can keep progressing and build his fitness up. Who knows, hopefull,y he can get some minutes before the end of the season – that would be a huge boost for the team.
It was obviously a massive moment for everyone but [especially] for him to be back from a bad injury.
The manager will be [careful] – he is with players who have been out for a long time, he knows how difficult it is to come back.
But Ox has looked good in training and I’m sure over the next few weeks, as he builds fitness, the manager will keep a close eye on him because he is an important player, a fantastic player for this team.
To have him back before the end of the season would be a massive boost.
The Reds go into the crucial tie against one of their biggest rivals on the back of a draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League midweek.
However, United go into the game in good form, despite losing to PSG last week in Europe.
Ole Gunnar Solskaer is unbeaten in the Premier League as United boss, and will be looking to halt Liverpool’s title charge by beating the Reds on Sunday.
