Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has backed Liverpool forward Xherdan Shaqiri to join a top-10 Premier League side should he part company with the Reds this summer.
In an interview with Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Leeds United stopper sees the 29-year-old as a ”luxury player” who would be of benefit to the league’s better sides. He said:
”Shaqiri is a player who is creative. He is more of a luxury player so his work rate does come into question at times. You would have to think that he would join a team in the top half of the Premier League, one that can afford a luxury player. I couldn’t see him joining a bottom-half Premier League team because of the way he plays but of course, at the same time, he played at Stoke for so long.”
Shaqiri has featured more prominently this term than in recent seasons, contributing one goal and four assists in 17 appearances across all competitions this season.
Despite this, the diminutive Swiss international has been linked with a move away from Anfield that would end a three-year spell with the Reds.

Calling Shaqiri a ”luxury player” seems a little unfair.
Despite his obvious qualities in an attacking sense and frailties defensively, the former Bayern Munich ace has been utilised as a part of a midfield three at times this term – a sure sign Jurgen Klopp rates his work ethic.
That said, this summer could be the time to cash in with two years left on his contract and a reasonable resale value still on his head.
Overall Shaqiri’s Liverpool career will be viewed favourably, albeit blighted by injuries and perhaps a lack of appearances owing to Liverpool’s domestic cup failings.
