Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Fenway Sports Group could be inclined to sell Liverpool Football Club for a ‘lower offer’ following the European Super League debacle.
The Reds were named as one of 12 founder clubs willing to form a breakaway competition to oppose the UEFA Champions League, before swiftly backing out of plans having faced a stern backlash from supporters.
Principle owner John W Henry was quick to apologise and take the blame in a video message on Liverpool’s social media, however, Robinson has told Football Insider that the American businessmen could still look to sell.
I think in the current financial climate it’s going to be very hard to sell a multi-billion pound business. If somebody has the money then everything has a price. Certain top clubs are always for sale for the right price. As much as you love your house or your car if someone came in and offered two or three times what it’s worth, it’s got a price.
The 41-year-old went on to claim the group could ‘jump ship’ for less than they would’ve considered prior to the Super League wrath.
READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT
Despite being heralded as saviours when taking over from Tom Hicks and George Gillett back in 2010, this latest error of judgement is another in a long line of mistakes made.
From attempting to trademark Liverpool to increasing ticket prices, the last 12 months alone have seen the owners look to furlough staff members and now force a breakaway competition.
All told it’s a sorry state of affairs and should genuine interest materialise, the majority of Kopites would plead with FSG to indeed sell the club.
