Real Madrid to battle for Emre Can

According to the Daily Express, who cite Spanish outlet Don Balon, Real Madrid have now joined Juventus in the race to sign Liverpool contract rebel Emre Can.

Many clubs have been linked to Can in the January transfer window with Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich all named in the battle for Can.

Since the start of this season, Juventus have been named as the front-runners to sign Can but the chance to play at the Santiago Bernabeu could turn the German’s head.

Real Madrid have been below par this season and the need for reinforcements is clear but Zinedine Zidane doesn’t appear willing to spend in January.

Can has stated that while under contract at Liverpool, he will “give everything for the club” but his rather patchy form as of late suggests otherwise.

The reality is that Can is unlikely to sign a new contract at Anfield, with a move abroad to Italy, Germany or Spain the likeliest of outcomes.

The 24-year-old offers a lot to Liverpool due to his versatility. More often than not operating in central or defensive midfield, Can is also able to fill in at centre-back and has also been deployed at right-back previously.
