Madrid consider Reds’ Illarra bid

Spanish giants Real Madrid are ready to accept a bid of £16 million from Liverpool for their midfielder Asier Illarramendi, according to The Express.

Despite making a significant number of appearances last season, Illaramendi is said to be unhappy at the club.

He is reported to want a starting role in the team and even though German midfielder Sami Khedira has left, the competition at the Santiago Bernabeu is heavy.

After an initial £11 million offer was rejected by Real Madrid, the Reds have returned with a £16 million bid. It is considerably less than what Los Blancos bought the player for but they are still said to be considering the bid.

Illaramendi started his career at Real Sociedad and played frequently for them before Madrid came calling and they bought the central midfielder for circa €30 million.

He has not played as much as he would have liked and could be seeking a move away in search of regular first team football.

However, it is reported that new Madrid manager Rafael Benitez will have the final say before he lets the 25-year-old move to his former club.
