A number of Liverpool fans have been reacting to Jurgen Klopp’s update on Virgil van Dijk, with the German suggesting he won’t play again this season.
Van Dijk has been out with a cruciate ligament injury since the middle of October, having picked up the issue away to Everton.
Liverpool have got by without the Dutchman, but they still haven’t looked close to the same team that dominated the English and European game with him in the side.
Given the severity of Van Dijk’s injury, it was immediately thought that his season was in doubt and that increasingly looks set to be the case.
The Reds are already without Joe Gomez and Joel Matip for many months, and speaking in his pre-Brighton press conference on Wednesday, Klopp hinted that the same applied with the 29-year-old.
Jurgen Klopp says it is not likely Virgil van Dijk will be fit to play again this season.

Completely right thing to do. Some people were thinking March or April for a return. As someone who has had an ACL reconstruction 9 months is the bare minimum for any sort of return up too 12 months depending on the severity of the initial injury and the rehab process.

Well this was expected. Even if he was ahead of schedule, would rather him err on the side of caution and come back only when 150% recovered & ready.

Already expected this and not worth the risk long term.
We’re still in the mix and still every chance with the lads we’ve got in this mad season 💪💪💪— Goodfella (@Goodfella10001) February 2, 2021
