Robertson admits Liverpool defence must improve

Liverpool new-boy Andy Robertson has admitted that the club’s defensive unit needs to improve after “silly” mistakes have meant that the Reds have made a leaky start to the new campaign, according to a report on the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old Scottish international has found it difficult to break into the starting eleven for the Merseyside club so far this season, following his summer move from Hull City.

But he admits that the defence has been below standard so far this season after conceding 11 goals in six Premier League games and expects everyone at the club to work hard to resolve the situation.

“As a group we have to work together to get better defensively because, if the midfielders can help us and the strikers can help us, then as a team we’ll improve,”

“If we can just shore up at the back and not concede silly goals and not switch off then we’ll be a big force,” he continued.

Robertson last featured for the Reds in their disappointing 2-0 defeat against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup, but is hoping to see more action as the fixtures come thick and fast.

The rejuvenation of Alberto Moreno at left-back has seen Robertson’s opportunities limited so far, but whenever he has performed he has been impressive and is certainly knocking on the door for a more permanent starting spot; Klopp will be aware that he is a great threat from set pieces, which surely works in his favour.
