Rodgers set for FSG showdown

Liverpool co-owner Tom Werner will be visiting Merseyside this week to hold the largely talked about end of season review with Brendan Rodgers, according to the BBC.

Werner is expected in Liverpool on Tuesday with the meeting scheduled for the following day.

It has been reported for a while now that the Rodgers’ job is under ‘no immediate threat’, and Ben Smith of the BBC says he will go into the meeting hoping to be told he is safe, but ‘no one [is] certain’.

One man that was largely tipped to take over at Liverpool, should Rodgers depart, was Jürgen Klopp. The German has now left Borussia Dortmund and was reported to attract the interest of a number of clubs.

However, Klopp released a statement this morning to announce that he will be taking a break from football:

“After seven intense and emotional years, I think it’s a good idea to let the numerous memories settle in before I take on a new challenge with my coaching team, refreshed and fully motivated. I’m going to take a break until further notice.”

Despite this, numerous bookmarkers have slashed the odds on the Liverpool manager being sacked.

A spokesperson for Betfair said: “At the start of this season, Rodgers was 100/1 to leave Liverpool but it’s gone from the unthinkable to the very likely as he is now odds-on at 5/6 to part ways with the club he came so close to winning the title with, this time last year.”

All in all, it seems like there will be some clarity as to the happenings at Anfield this week.
