Sergio Aguero will miss Manchester City’s vital Premier League clash with Liverpool this weekend, Pep Guardiola has confirmed.
The 32-year-old hasn’t featured for City since the 3-1 win away to Chelsea in early January, when he made a late cameo from the substitutes’ bench.
Aguero tested positive for the virus affecting the world last month, but has now tested negative.
Despite this, Guardiola explained that his star striker was still a few weeks away from returning, meaning he won’t feature in Sunday’s much-anticipated game at Anfield:
Sergio needs time – he suffered Covid and needs weeks to feel ready. He is still not training on the field. He started to move a little yesterday.
He will need a few weeks to come back. But he is [Covid] negative; this is the most important thing. He is healthy again and now he will come again. As the top scorer, he is important for us.

Aguero is such a big-game player that it is a relief not to see him involved, from a Liverpool perspective at least.
The Argentine may have never scored at Anfield before, but he has the ability to win a match in an instant.
The game feels like it could be season-defining, with a win for City making them extremely likely to regain the league title.
Victory for Liverpool would see them make significant ground on their rivals, however, and suggest they are still right in the mix.
Both sides have midweek games, of course – the Reds host Brighton and City visit Burnley – so the league table could look different come Sunday.
