Former Premier League manager Slaven Bilic has described Liverpool superstar Virgil van Dijk as a ‘powerhouse’.
The 30-year-old centre-back has now gone 60 league games unbeaten at Anfield after the Reds beat West Ham 1-0 at the weekend.
Now seemingly back up and running in full following the horror injury suffered in 2020/21, Van Dijk is looking imperious once more.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, Bilic was full of praise for the Dutchman.
It’s unbelievable (on VVD’s record at Anfield). Sometimes, he looks too casual. Sometimes, he looks like he isn’t on his toes. But he doesn’t have to be on his toes. He’s such a powerhouse. He is the soul of this team. He is everything to this team. And he’s so confident that he kills the opponent’s confidence. It looks like he doesn’t care, it looks like he has an extra spare gear or a couple of them. He makes everything look easy.
So far this season Van Dijk has earned an outstanding 7.28 average Sofascore rating from 25 Premier League outings.
READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT
Nailed it.
Injuries to Joel Matip and Joe Gomez may have helped damage Jurgen Klopp’s aspirations last season, but there can be no doubt that the biggest loss was the £49.5million valued Dutchman.
Not only a world-class central defender but also a calming influence at the back with leadership qualities in abundance – as further proven by being named Holland captain.
Seemingly returning to top form just as the campaign approaches the business end, Liverpool’s chances of a historic 2021/22 season are vastly improved by Van Dijk’s overwhelming presence at the heart of the defence.
