Spurs’ interest may raise Ings fee

Liverpool were hit with a nasty surprise today as they bid to negotiate the development fee they will pay to Danny Ings’ current employers Burnley.

It has been widely reported that Liverpool were expecting to play in the region of £5m for the deal but it has emerged that Burnley are using Tottenham Hotspur’s alleged £12m offer to drive the price up closer to £8m they really want.

Whilst the player had no intention of joining the Londoners, Burnley are using the offer as a chip to bargain with in the talks.

They yesterday announced on their club website that Ings would be making the switch to Merseyside but continued to say: “Burnley Football Club has rejected an offer made by Liverpool but will continue to have dialogue with the club in order to reach a resolution over the fee.”

Should no deal be reached, the case will go to a tribunal where Tottenham’s bid, if Burnley declare it, would be taken into consideration.

The talks between the two clubs are ongoing.
