Raheem Sterling is looking ever more likely to leave Anfield following recent developments.
Manchester City, on Thursday, bid in the region of £25-30m for Sterling – however, the bid was rejected by Liverpool. The bid being declined, though, has supposedly given City more confidence that they will get their man, according to The Times.
Liverpool say that they won’t let the highly-rated youngster leave for anything under £50m, but City believe that they can reach a compromise with Liverpool about the deal. Liverpool’s previous position in all of this, was that Sterling wasn’t available at any price and he would not be leaving the club, but with a large section of his own fans turning on him, it seems as if Sterling will be granted his wish.
The Times say that City will look to take advantage of Sterling falling out with Liverpool and improve their offer by around £5m. However, this will almost definitely be rejected by Liverpool as they will seek more. City’s need for homegrown players puts Liverpool in a good position in the negotiations, as they know City’s wealth will allow them to pay more.
Manchester City have been keeping a close eye on Sterling’s development at Liverpool this season and are evidently impressed. Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have also been keeping taps on Sterling, but City are undoubtedly huge favourites to land the 20 year-old’s signature now.
