Englishman James Milner becomes a free agent this summer and it is believed that he is reluctant to sign an extension at Manchester City.
The Daily Mail reported last night that Liverpool remain firmly in the hunt for his signature, along with Arsenal and a host of other European Clubs.
Despite being mathmatically possible, there won’t be Champions League football at Anfield next season but this has not deterred Milner from moving to the Reds.
The Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan states that Milner is more attracted by the guarantee of first-team football in his preferred position: centre midfield. This is something Liverpool are willing to offer him.
Liverpool’s manager Brendan Rodgers had said this about Milner in January: “‘James is a wonderful player, he’s been an outstanding footballer since the time I saw him at Leeds as a young player.”
The idea of staying at City beyond this season is also a possibility, but Manuel Pellegrini has some persuading to do if he wants the 29 year old to continue to play for him.
Since bursting onto the scene as a 16 year old, the versatile Milner has made over 400 appearances in the Premier League as well as being ever-present in the England interantional squads.
