Wijnaldum hoping to be fit for Crystal Palace clash

Gini Wijnaldum has given Liverpool a big injury boost, claiming he hopes to be fit for the visit of Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Dutchman is enjoying an outstanding season for the Reds, outperforming the rest of the midfielders.

He has gone up a level from last season, adding more influence and seemingly being inspired by the competition provided by Fabinho and Naby Keita.

The general consensus was that a knee problem would rule Wijnaldum out of the Palace game.

The Dutchman has confirmed that he hopes to be available for selection, however, which would be a real bonus for Jurgen Klopp:

I’m good now. For a few days I had pain in my knee, now it’s getting better.

We have to look what the days will bring and hopefully I can play on Saturday. We will see what will happen.

Liverpool will be looking to go seven points clear of Manchester City again on Saturday, with victory imperative against Palace.

With Pep Guardiola’s champions almost certain to beat Huddersfield Town the following day, dropping points against weaker opposition would be disastrous in the title race.

Wijnaldum being fit will help avoid that.
