Liverpool are in advanced talks to sign Manchester City academy midfielder Xavier Parker this summer and it looks increasingly likely the Reds are about to pull off another brilliant piece of youth recruitment.
Who Is Xavier Parker?
If you haven’t heard the name yet, get used to it. Parker, who only turned 16 last month, is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young midfielders in England. A dynamic, attack-minded No. 8, he joined Manchester City’s academy from West Ham in 2024 and wasted no time making his mark.
Last season he scored six goals and laid on seven assists in just 21 games at under-18 level —a goal or assist every 76.5 minutes and became the second-youngest player to debut for City in the UEFA Youth League. He even scored in a 3-0 win over Liverpool’s own U18s back in March, with Reds recruitment staff watching from the stands.
Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig has praised his technique, ball control, movement, courage, first touch, athleticism and agility, while journalist Bence Bocsak describes him as a “good ball carrier” who’s adept at link-up play and “can play in a number of different roles in midfield and attack.” Man City’s own website calls him a player who “will look to use his attacking capabilities to add goals.”
Liverpool In pole position
According to reliable youth football source The Secret Scout, Liverpool are now in talks with Parker’s representatives over a summer move, with his Man City contract set to expire this month.
Crucially, this isn’t just a case of Liverpool being one of several interested clubs making tentative enquiries the reports suggest “both parties want the move,” with Parker a lifelong Liverpool supporter who grew up wanting to play for the Anfield club. Man City, for their part, are already looking at replacements.
The Athletic’s Anantaajith Raghuraman has also noted that Liverpool are expected to continue their “recruitment drive” for talented youngsters under 18 and Parker fits that profile perfectly.
The Rio Ngumoha blueprint
Liverpool fans will need no reminding of just how well this strategy can work. Rio Ngumoha joined the club as a 16-year-old from Chelsea in 2024 and has already broken into Arne Slot’s — now Andoni Iraola’s first-team picture. Parker is seen by many as a player who could follow a similar trajectory.
The Reds have form for this kind of signing. Harvey Elliott, Ben Gannon-Doak, Trey Nyoni and Ngumoha are all prominent examples of precocious talents plucked from fellow British academies and developed into genuine first-team assets. Parker looks like the next name on that list.
What happens next?
Should the move be completed, Parker would join up with the U18s for the start of pre-season at the AXA Training Centre. New first-team head coach Andoni Iraola has made clear he will be keeping a close eye on academy talent with genuine potential, so the pathway to senior football is very real.

This has all the hallmarks of another superb piece of business from Liverpool’s academy recruitment team.
Parker is exactly the kind of profile the club has been targeting: technically gifted, versatile, and young enough to develop fully within the system. The fact that he’s a Liverpool fan who actively wants to be at Anfield only makes it better.
With Ngumoha already proving what’s possible, and Josh Abe seemingly destined for big things, the pipeline at the AXA Training Centre is in seriously good shape.
If Liverpool can land Parker and Motsi alongside him, the U18s are going to be very exciting to watch next season and it won’t be long before we’re talking about both of them pushing for the senior squad.
One to watch very closely as the summer unfolds.
