Throughout the longstanding history of the FA Cup, England’s two most successful clubs have played each other a total of 17 times, with Sunday’s clash at Old Trafford being number 18 and the first behind closed doors.
Liverpool don’t have the greatest record against their arch rivals in the cup. Even when the teams were drawn together under Bob Paisley and Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool were running away with league titles and winning European Cups, but came unstuck against United a few times in this competition.
While Liverpool fans have had the chance for 9,000 of them to sing ‘Campiones’ around Old Trafford on Sunday taken away from them, in the past there has been plenty to sing and shout about when playing United in the cup, specifically in the past 20 years.
