We’ve asked members of the Read Liverpool writing staff to make their votes for Liverpool’s Monthly awards for October, the first of which was for Goal of the Month.
In our second category, I, along with Adrian, Dan, David and Sam have picked our Player of the Month from the games against Swansea, Manchester United, West Brom, Tottenham and Crystal Palace.
Here are our picks:
Adrian – Philippe Coutinho/Joel Matip
Genuinely can’t decide. As good as coutinho has been going forward and creating chance after chance, Matip has slotted right into that back four and immediately improved it and has already got a goal. Potentially our best free transfer ever.
David – Philippe Coutinho
Roberto Firmino and Mane have both been excellent but it is Coutinho who, for me, has been at the heart of the Reds’ at times sensational attacking play. He very nearly snatched a victory against United with a stunning strike, denied by a world class save, was unquestionably the man of the match against West Brom and shone again at Selhurst Park. It’s not difficult to see why Barcelona are, rather worryingly, interested.
Dan – Philippe Coutinho
Only one man can take this accolade, Philippe Coutinho. Only scored one goal but his influence on this Liverpool team accounts for so much more. In truth, there’s been so many players who’ve excelled during October but none more so than Coutinho, for me.
Sam – Roberto Firmino
His hair might be questionable and his tattoos a bit confusing, but this man’s attacking presence is unmatched. As a centre forward, Firmino will go wherever he needs to be to pick up the ball. His vision and anticipation are so hot right now he knows what his teammates are going to do before they even do. In front of goal, he seems unflappable. In all seriousness, let’s raise a glass to Brendan Rodgers for bringing this man to the club.
Ste – Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian has been excellent all month. He did well in midfield at Swansea and against Man United. He was involved in both goals against West Brom and was borderline unplayable against Palace. No brainer for me.
WINNER – Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian was sensational in October, contributing goals and assists. Let’s hope he can continue this way until the end of the season!
Who do you think was Liverpool’s best player in October?
