Conte sympathises with Liverpool following Sevilla draw

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte showed sympathy towards Liverpool following their disappointing 3-3 draw away at Sevilla on Tuesday night.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, the Blues boss insisted that he felt Liverpool were unlucky to have only come away from Spain with a point after Sevilla’s incredible comeback in the second-half.

I watched the game. Liverpool played a really good first half with great intensity. But as you know very well, football is strange. What happened in the second half is very difficult to explain.

Liverpool in the second half had opportunities to score other goals. They were also unlucky.

The Reds headed into the break three goals to the good after a brace from Roberto Firmino and a goal from Sadio Mane.

However, Sevilla fought back in the second-half and completed a quite unbelievable comeback in additional time. Wissam Ben Yedder netted two after the interval and Guido Pizarro was the hero late on, as he scrambled home.

Conte’s Chelsea side take on Liverpool this weekend in what is undoubtedly a match of huge importance. Both sides will be looking to continue their positive run of form, with both coming away from last weekend’s fixtures with big wins.

It’s important to prepare for the game and for us to try and play a really good game.

We know very well what are the qualities of Liverpool. We have to work during the flight to prepare for the game, but to be honest we started [preparing] with my staff before tonight so as not to wait until at the last moment.
