Liverpool are interested in signing a new centre back this summer and will targert either of Burnley’s James Tarkowski or Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles, according to Miguel Delaney of the Independent.

25-year-old Tarkowski earned a lot of praise for his performances for the Clarets this season, having risen through the ranks from League One to the Premier League. In fact, he played so well that he was called up by England for their recent friendly with Italy.

Lascelles, 24, has also had a fine season and was one of Newcastle’s better players as they secured a top ten finish in their first year back in the Premier League.

The Newcastle captain has been scouted by plenty of sides and it looks like Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in him.

According to the report from Delaney, Jurgen Klopp isn’t necessarily looking for a direct replacement for Dejan Lovren, but he wants to add more quality to his ranks in terms of his defensive options.
