Markovic on brink of Anfield exit

Lazar Markovic is set to secure a move to Greek side PAOK before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, according to the Mirror.

The winger joined Liverpool in 2014 for £20 million as a much-fancied future prospect, but has not played for the Reds since 2015.

Loaned out several times during his Liverpool career, Markovic has spent time with Fenerbahce, Sporting, Hull City, and most recently Anderlecht.

Aged 24, the forward still has time on his side, and PAOK are willing to take a chance on the disenchanted Serbian international.

Beginning his career at Partizan Belgrade, Benfica snapped Markovic up in 2013, where he played just one year before Liverpool came calling.

Fellow Greek club Olympiacos are said to be rivalling PAOK in the contest for Markovic, with Belgian outfit Standard Liege also keen on acquiring the wide-man’s services.

Markovic has received 22 Serbia caps, scoring three goals in those appearances.

Appearing for Liverpool during the preseason, it seems Markovic has not done enough to convince Jürgen Klopp he deserves a place in his squad.
