Henderson to miss England clash with Spain

Jordan Henderson will miss England’s UEFA Nations League encounter with Spain on Monday.

The Liverpool captain was yellow carded in his country’s 0-0 draw with Croatia on Friday night, and will now serve a suspension.

Starting in a midfield three with Chelsea’s Ross Barkley and Eric Dier of Spurs, the trio were unable to spark the match into life in an UEFA mandated empty stadium.

Henderson’s omission will mean the midfielder will now likely be at full fitness for Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield.

England will travel to Seville for the clash, needing to find alternative options in the middle of the park.

Leicester City’s James Maddison will be a candidate to make his England debut, with Mason Mount of Derby in the same position.

With a congested fixture schedule ahead, Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp won’t be too upset to see his skipper get a compulsory rest.
