Origi eager to stay and fight for Liverpool spot

Liverpool striker Divock Origi has revealed that he is eager to impress manager Jurgen Klopp as he hopes to fight for a first-team spot this season.

As reported on the Liverpool Echo, the striker has not played a single minute for Liverpool this season but he is still hopeful that he can manage to salvage his career with the Merseyside club.

The Belgian international had the chance to move away from Anfield during the summer transfer window but opted to stay and keep fighting for his place in the team.

A bid of around £20m should be enough to allow Liverpool to sell him but the player himself is showing no intentions of leaving. He is focused on working his way back into the first team squad.

He said:

At 23 I have big ambitions but for me, it’s just about focusing on the here and now and driving on as much as possible and hopefully let my feet talk on the pitch.

Goals are a result of you being happy and performing on the pitch and I am aiming to do whatever I can to enjoy it, if that’s in training or if that’s in game. I will try to maximise that and then we can see how it goes.

I just hope for the best in everything and know that whenever I can shine my light it is a positive for everyone: for the club, for me, for the game that I am trying to impact… so I am really focusing on that.

The manager has been encouraging me, like he does with all the players, just trying to push us and bring the best out of us every day.

I am trying to improve every day and just enjoying my game. I have been enjoying my training and feel as though I have been training well so that is good.

The forward is refusing to give up on his career at the club and has 21 times for the Reds since joining back in 2015. Origi was included in the matchday squad for the 1-0 away victory over Huddersfield earlier this month, although he never got to come on.
