Defender Joe Gomez has warned that Liverpool can’t afford to drop more points this season after the 1-1 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
As reported on the Evening Standard, Gomez believes that the level of competition at the top of the Premier League means the Reds can’t afford to slip up.
Liverpool now sit two points behind defending champions Manchester City and are level on points with Chelsea.
And Gomez believes that this weekend is the perfect warning for Liverpool not to drop any more points. He said:
The level of the Premier League now is ridiculous, it’s relentless really. You can’t slip up at any point or teams will capitalise.
We have to remember that, regardless of who we are facing. Every point is so important. We are always on top of each other as a team, demanding more from ourselves and that’s how it has to be.
We can’t control what other teams do so there is no point worrying about their results. We just have to focus on ourselves.
Gomez has formed a brilliant partnership in defence with Virgil Van Dijk this season and has arguably been one of Liverpool’s best players so far this term.
