Kelleher gains senior Ireland call-up

Liverpool goalkeeper Caomhin Kelleher has been called up to the senior Ireland squad.

The 19-year-old was signed from Ring Mahon Rangers in 2015, and has spent time with the U18s and U23s in Liverpool.

Kelleher was a key part of Jürgen Klopp’s preseason preparations, and was part of the squad that travelled to the United States.

The Cork-native carries a degree of international pedigree, having been selected for Ireland’s U17 team at the European Championship in 2015.

Martin O’Neill has decided the time is right to introduce Kelleher to the senior team setup.

With a view to the prodigy’s role in the Irish team in the long-term, Kelleher will train with the best his nation has to offer despite having never played a senior game for Liverpool.

The move means that Liverpool can now command three international goalkeepers, with Alisson of Brazil, Simon Mignolet of Belgium, and Caomhin Kelleher of Ireland.
