Robertson was plotting move to Stoke before joining Liverpool

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has revealed that he was contemplating a move to Stoke City before Liverpool signed him, according to a report on Inside Futbol.

The left-back only had one-year remaining on his contract with Hull City, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2016/17 season.

The Scottish international was one of the bright sparks for Hull in what was a dull season, and several top-flight clubs were interested in securing his signature.

Stoke were seriously interested in signing Robertson and the defender was keen on making the transfer happen until Jurgen Klopp registered his interest.

The full-back said:

Stoke were quite interested in me. Mark Hughes liked me and I think there was a wee bit of chat with them.

I was thinking they were a really good option. I think they finished top ten that season and I was trying to get my head on Stoke.

Robertson ended up moving to Anfield and was introduced to the first team slowly, but now, he is one of the first names on Klopp’s teamsheet.

The Scotland captain’s current deal with the Reds runs until 2021 and he has developed into one of the league’s best full-backs.
