Borussia Dortmund eye Liverpool clash in the Champions League Last 16

Hans-Joachim Watzke, the CEO of Borussia Dortmund, says his club aren’t too concerned with who they are drawn against in the Last 16 of the Champions League, but he did admit that his club still feel like they owe Liverpool a defeat after the Reds knocked them out of the Europa League in back in 2016.

The Reds defeated Dortmund 4-3 at Anfield, coming back from 3-1 down in the second leg, with Dejan Lovren scoring the winning goal in injury time and it appears that the German side still hold a grudge about that game.

When asked about the teams BVB could face in the Last 16, Watzke said:

I was just looking at the groups and determined that there are three teams in second position; Liverpool, Manchester United at Tottenham. The main advantage (of Dortmund winning Group A) is the home advantage in the return leg. Liverpool may not necessarily be our opponent, although we still have a debt to settle!

Dortmund won Group A with 13 points, ahead of Atletico Madrid, whilst Liverpool finished as runners-up in Group C, behind Paris-Saint Germain.

The draw for the Last 16 takes place on Monday, where Liverpool could be drawn against Dortmund, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Porto, Real Madrid or Juventus.
