Virgil van Dijk set to win PFA Players’ Player of the Year award

Virgil van Dijk is set to be named as the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, according to the Mail Online.

While no official announcement is due until Thursday, the Dutchman is expected to beat Raheem Sterling to the award.

Van Dijk was one of six players in contention for the award, but he appears to have beaten off competition from the likes of Eden Hazard, Sterling and Sergio Aguero.

The Dutch defender, who is now widely regarded as one of the best in the world in his position, has dominated the headlines this season.

His imperious performances have been crucial in Liverpool’s bid to win both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Should Liverpool go on to win either of the two competitions, van Dijk will no doubt be credited as a key figure within their success this season under Jurgen Klopp.

Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva was also in the running with van Dijk’s Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane.
