Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told the club’s sporting director Michael Edwards to make signing Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt a priority this summer, according to a report from BILD.
Barcelona are the clear favourites to sign the Dutch international, while Bayern Munich and Manchester United are also said to be interested in him along with Liverpool.
Reports suggest that Ajax are looking for around £75m for the 19-year-old, a similar fee to what Liverpool paid to sign his international teammate Virgil van Dijk.

Whether Liverpool are willing to splash the case on de Ligt remains to be seen. The club are reportedly happy with their options at the back but de Ligt could be a ‘once in a generation’ type player who the club think they can’t afford to miss out on.
De Ligt was expected to be a Barcelona player by now but with various issues holding up the deal to take him to the Nou Camp, Liverpool could make a late swoop.
