Klopp drops hint about Liverpool’s summer transfer targets

Jurgen Klopp has outlined the type of players he wants to sign this summer, demanding that they “fight for their spot.”

Liverpool had a quiet summer last time around, with Adrian proving to be the only senior addition.

It is being rumoured that it could be a busier transfer window this year, as the Reds look to go up a gear, finding themselves linked with the likes of Kai Havertz, Jadon Sancho, Timo Werner and Kylian Mbappe.

Speaking to the Independent, Klopp discussed his transfer plans, not naming names but instead describing the profile of players he wants to bring in:

We need players who want to be part of this, who want to fight for their spot, who want to make the next step together with us, who want to develop and improve so that’s it. We have these players and whoever wants to join us, needs to have exactly this kind of attitude.

That CV is not easy to fulfil. The age group of our team is good in the moment. In two or three years maybe it’ll be different, but for the moment, it’s good.

It depends on what you want – is it a good age for selling? Probably not. But is it a good age for performing? Yes. So there’s a lot of things we have to think about. It’s an interesting period.

I think Liverpool fans should have total faith in Klopp when it comes to his summer transfer business.

While many are keen to see at least one high-profile addition brought in, the German doesn’t generally operate that way, spending over £30 million on just six players during his time in charge of the Reds.

He will only bring in players if he feels they are perfect, rather than taking a risk on someone who ultimately might not be worth their price tag.

It could be that the summer ends up being quieter than some are predicting, but Klopp and Michael Edwards are to be trusted, as the signings of players such as Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Fabinho, Gini Wijnaldum, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane prove.
