Wijnaldum sends touching social media message to injured Van Dijk

Gini Wijnaldum has paid a touching tribute to Virgil van Dijk on Twitter, following his goalscoring exploits over the weekend.

The Dutchman captained the Netherlands in their 3-1 win over Bosnia on Sunday, scoring his side’s first two goals.

Wijnaldum is on fire for his country, finding the net 12 times in his last 19 international appearances.

The 30-year-old dedicated one of his goals to Van Dijk, mimicking his Liverpool teammate’s celebration and showing he is in his thoughts.

On Monday, Wijnaldum continued to show his love for his injured close friend, saying he will keep copying the celebration every time he scores during his absence:

Van Dijk’s injury is a colossal blow, not only to Liverpool, but also to the player himself.

He had been at the peak of his powers before suffering cruciate ligament damage and he could miss the rest of the season.

Van Dijk is at the best possible club when it comes to recovering, however, having outstanding medics looking after him, not to mention an unrivalled team spirit.

Wijnaldum’s message sums up the togetherness that Jurgen Klopp has created within his squad, and it will be an emotional moment when Van Dijk does eventually return.

One thing’s for sure: Liverpool’s players will do everything they can to win another Premier League title for the 29-year-old.
