New report claims Gini Wijnaldum could still want Barcelona move

Gini Wijnaldum could still be interested in joining Barcelona next summer, according to Mundo Deportivo [via Sport Witness].

The 30-year-old has been in magnificent form for Liverpool this season, having stayed put after the summer transfer window.

Wijnaldum was linked with Barca numerous times, but a move never ended up coming to fruition.

With the Dutchman’s current Liverpool deal expiring at the end of the season, however, his Reds exit still potentially feels on the cards.

This latest report says Wijnaldum ‘does not close the door to sign for Barcelona’, suggesting he is still weighing up his future.

Although the lure of Barca for Dutch players is great, they are not the team they once were.

Liverpool are playing a far more exciting brand of football, and their chances of silverware are greater, too, with arguably the world’s best manager in charge in Jurgen Klopp.

Call it bias, but Wijnaldum would be mad to trade the Reds for Barca, at a time when he is at his peak, as well as a key man for a truly great side.

If this was the Pep Guardiola era at Barca it would be understandable, but that isn’t the case at all, with Lionel Messi possibly moving on soon and the La Liga giants sitting ninth in the table.
