Ralph Hasenhuttl confirms positive Danny Ings virus test after Liverpool clash

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that Danny Ings tested positive for Covid after he scored the winner against Liverpool on 4 January.

As per Daily Mail, the Austrian said that Ings has been in isolation since that match however confirmed the former Red ‘may have been contagious against Liverpool’.

Despite his positive test, the Saints boss stated that there were no further positive cases and so far it seems as though Jurgen Klopp’s side hasn’t been affected.

The 28-year-old, who was sold to Southampton last year after an initial loan spell from Liverpool, scored the only goal of the match after just two minutes before going on to play the next 75 as the Saints inflicted defeat on his former club.

It remains to be seen whether there will be repercussions amongst the Anfield squad, but the last thing Liverpool or the Premier League needs is further disruption to the schedule.

First and foremost, we wish Ings a speedy recovery.

Despite his punishing early goal at St Mary’s 10 days ago, he is still highly regarded by many at Liverpool, who wish his time on Merseyside wasn’t so plagued by injury.

Moreover, we wait with bated breath to hear whether he has unfortunately passed the virus on to any members of the Liverpool squad, something Klopp may touch upon in his pre-Manchester United press conference tomorrow.
