Memphis Depay comments on future of Liverpool target Houssem Aouar

Liverpool have seemingly been given a boost in their potential attempts to sign Houssem Aouar this summer.

The Reds have been linked with the 22-year-old Lyon star in the past, with Arsenal also tipped to buy him.

Aouar’s teammate Memphis Depay has now stoked the fire ahead of a possible exit, telling Canal+ [via The Mirror] that he and his colleague intend to join one of Europe’s elite clubs currently. He said:

We know we play for a very big club but we want to go to one of the top three clubs in the world.

Then you will see Houssem, he will get 10 times better. For me, it’s the same.

Considering Liverpool’s current standing in the game, Depay’s comments may suggest that they are one of the clubs he is referencing

The Reds are Premier League champions and won the Champions League 19 months ago, with any two from Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona arguably among the others at whom Depay was insinuating.

Aouar is a fantastic talent who could bring creativity to Liverpool’s midfield, with the Frenchman bagging three goals and three assists in Ligue 1 this season, as well as averaging 1.6 key passes per game.

At Liverpool, only Andy Robertson (1.9) and Mohamed Salah (1.7) have averaged more for the latter metric in the Premier League so far in 2020/21, which speaks volumes about what the 22-year-old could add to Klopp’s side.
