Liverpool ‘keeping tabs’ on Aston Villa teenager Carney Chukwuemeka

Liverpool are believed to be ‘keeping tabs’ on Aston Villa wonderkid Carney Chukwuemeka, according to a report from The Times.

The Reds are joined by a host of elite clubs in their interest in the teenager, including arch-rivals Manchester United as well as Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Chukwuemeka is a 17-year-old midfielder who was absent for Liverpool’s recent FA Cup trip to face a Villa side made up of teenagers, having trained with the first team in the build-up to the match.

Born in Northampton, the teenage talent has represented England at under-17 level and was touted as ‘probably the best 16-year-old in England’ by Villa chief executive and former Reds managing director Christian Purslow.

The talented teenager, who has been the subject of long-term admiration from both Liverpool and Manchester United, has played 13 times for Villa’s under-23s this season, contributing two assists.

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

There has certainly been a concerted effort of late from those in positions of power at Anfield to sign young talented players with an eye on the next generation of Liverpool stars.

Under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff, this current era at L4 has proven to be a superb opportunity for youngsters to learn their trade and ultimately break through into first team football.

With recent teenage signings such as Harvey Elliott, Marcelo Pitaluga and Calum Scanlon, the new precedent has been set and an attempt to lure Chukwuemeka to Merseyside would come as little surprise as Klopp looks to secure a lasting legacy.
